Ben McRedmond created Stikked in late 2007 as a method of learning how to use the CodeIgniter framework. Ben soon released Stikked as an open-source application so others could learn from it, as at the time there was a lack of open-source CodeIgniter applications. Stikked gained praise from the small (very small) number of active users because of it's simplicity and aesthetic appeal.

After Ben decided he wished to continue with the Stikked project, he decided to not be yet another pastebin Stikked would have to be unique and Ben set out to achieve the following:

• To be easy to use
• To not be ugly
• To still be feature rich
• Offer integration with popular text editors

Stikked went through many iterations each time bugs would be fixed and the interface would be improved. In September of 2008 Stikked 0.5 was released, the biggest release yet. This release brought new features, a new interface and countless bug fixes. This release caused Stikked's stats to shoot up and Stikked started to become slightly more hopeful.

Stikked however was still not pulling enough users to satisfy Ben's ego. So Ben set out working on Stikked 0.6. Again the biggest update yet, this version brought the ability for users to login and create accounts. This lets them easily manage their pastes and is the founding for exciting features coming in the near future. Ben will have to wait and see if Stikked finally takes off.
